An offering of what I have learnt in my practice and what helps me personally to improve. This isn’t about the kind of procreate brushes you use or the kind of pen. But something more essential. The inner work which goes into creating.
1. Develop your visual sensibilities. Cultivate your taste. Learn to identify the different flavours. Read. Listen. Look. Really look. Care. Find out. Seek. Hold some things close. Let go of other.
2. Don’t be afraid of experimenting. Pick up something you usually don’t for a change. You are a multifaceted human being. Explore the temptation to try something new. Let the newness of it change you in some way.
3. Focus on enjoying the process, the marks you make, the thrill of telling a story, the satisfaction of self-expression over the end result, the product. How you approach, and think, and feel about something greatly influences what materialises with your efforts towards those thoughts and feelings.
4. Be sensitive to the world you live in. And the world you want to create. Respond to it with your art. Make art about what you believe in and raise your voice against the oppressive forces. Be a force to reckon with!
