Hello there!
I have been attending once-a-weekend classes with Mum and Anjali at a lovely, quaint pottery studio in Noida. We learned the pinching technique in the first session and made some wobbly pots. Mum made rather big and gorgeous coconut-like vessels. She used to make soft toys and batik prints ages ago... It’s so lovely to see her excited about an art activity again. It took us this long to make it happen, but glad we are doing this together.
I made three pots in the first class and carved a dragonfly in one and a bird-transforms-into-a-fish-transforms-into-a-bird story in another.
In the second class, I did some paint-drawing on one of my pinched pots. There was a limitation of colours, and I picked green and coral pink, therefore ended up with a green-eyed girl. It didn’t turn out to be like my sketch and what I had in mind but that’s the beauty of working with a new medium. It takes on its own way.
We also made tiny trinket boxes in this class. My clay was softer than needed so I will complete my trinket box in the next session.
I leave you with a drawing of Anjali standing in front of the studio door. This space gives me so much joy. I hope to keep returning to it again and again and get my hands on some clay soon in the next session.
Until next time!
Take care,
Reshu
