About a week ago I came across the wonderful
newsletter and it resonated with how I find myself at this moment in my practice. writes about how the 100 day project allows us to expand what our creative container is.She writes:
“What do I mean by creative container? I mean structure that hold our entire creative process. The intention and purpose behind connecting the dots between our experiences and bringing a more creative lens to everything we do.
This container holds more that just time at the desk, or the time working on a single project. It welcomes in all kinds of creative endeavours, and it supports the idea that creativity is an ongoing process”
She further writes that committing to regularity in our creative practice is what gives us permission to build a container for that practice.
I have been slowly expanding my own practice by exploring printmaking, making collages and short animations. I would like to also include creativity in other aspects of my life, like reading more, spend time cooking and gardening, having more fulfilling relationships, to name a few.
So I began a hundred day commitment to myself for this slow expansion. I do not know if I can keep up for all the 100 coming days, as it can sound daunting, but the intention is to go slowly and regularly and see how it unfolds.
I won’t restrict myself to a medium, I would like to keep it open for myself - everyday I will try to make something towards this project of mine.
Day 1
I began enthusiastically with a short animation of a small longing-filled drawing from my sketchbook.
Day 2
For Day 2, I created another short animation. This one about loss and reconciliation. To set the intention for receiving what is lost in a new form and more abundant than before.
Day 3
For the next one I returned to my trusty black sketchbook and made a drawing welcoming the newly born baby squirrel(s) in our garden.
Day 4
A little dog and her butterfly friend in lino-cut for the fourth.
I went ahead made two short frame by frame animations with these two, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Day 5
A surface pattern design with linocut.
Day 6
Day 6 was about exploring some florals with papercutting.
Day 7
More collage work with colored paper and mono-printed bits.
